Massena,NY-Cornwall, ON CBC December 22,2012

Despite poor weather conditions, blowing snow, poor visibility and cold temperatures the Massena-Cornwall CBC recorded a good variety of birds. Highlights included a first record, 1 Ross's Goose, a record high count of over 3,000+ Snow Geese, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker, and 1 Carolina Wren. The winter finch numbers were good with lots of Common Redpoll and Pine Grosbeak along with at least 1 Hoary Redpoll.
I'll  have the complete report up next week.
Good birding, Bruce

The Carolina Wren is an increasing winter visitor to feeder in eastern Ontario.

Snow and strong winds made it difficult to look for water birds along the St.Lawrence River. These 2 Common Mergansers  were close to the shoreline.

The big surprise on the Massena-Cornall CBC were the record high number of Snow Geese totalling over 3,000 along with a first count record of Ross's Goose!
