October 5, 2011 More birding along the Ottawa River

Another great morning along the Ottawa River. It was nice to see the sun finally! At Britannia Conservation Area/mud Lake there were numerous Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-throated Sparrows, both Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets. We also had an immature Bald Eagle along the rapids. At Andrew Haydon Park we observed a number of land birds including White-crowned Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, and numerous Song Sparrow. I'm sure there was a Nelson's hidden in the reeds somewhere! Shorebirds were few but we did see a Solitary Sandpiper thanks to Nick von Maltzahn. Our final stop for the morning outing was at Shirley's Bay. There were still 14 Hudsonian Godwit and a small number of White-rumped Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Dunlin. The Bald Eagles were active but no Great Egrets. They may have departed for a warmer climate!

A Solitary Sandpiper feeding along Graham Creek.

Lots of Golden-crowned Kinglets on the move now.

A Common Merganser relaxing along the channel at Britannia.
