October 5, 2012 Eastern Screech-Owl

Our the past decade we have had the occasional Eastern Screech-Owl show up in the back ravine. We either hear it calling during the night or Black-capped Chickadees and Blue Jays find it during the day light when it is roosting in a hole or tree cavity.

Gray morph Eastern Screech-Owl in our backyard.

The Eastern Screech-Owl is an uncommon/scarce resident in the Ottawa district.

We first heard it calling at around 6:40pm and Ben imitated the "whinny" call and the owl flew in to investigate.
